CDG Group Marks 48 Years of Success as Solutions Provider Who Lays Foundations of IT Systems in Thailand, Ready to Extend Leadership through Continued Support for Transformation to Digital Thailand
Mr. Nart Liuchareon, CEO of CDG Group, said, “From our beginning as Control Data (Thailand) Ltd., the first company of CDG Group, we started off as a provider of data backup service during the Vietnam War. Upon the end of the war, the company shifted its business focus to distributorship, supplying mainframe computers to government agencies, state enterprises and private companies. CDG Group later became part of Thai people’s everyday life when we were entrusted to design a national population database to collect basic data of Thai people. Our name became more familiar to general public and we continued to play a key role to introduce computer and IT systems to Thai people. Among them, CDG Group laid the foundation of the Internet in Thailand. Since our early days till present, we have been building IT infrastructure for Thailand: the first mainframe computer we installed in Thailand was the first and the most advanced in the country at that time; we supplied and installed automatic teller machines (ATMs) nationwide for leading Thai banks; and we introduced the first electronic ticketing system to Thailand’s train services, just to name but a few.”
Today, CDG Group has been pioneering the IT infrastructure and thriving alongside Thai people for 48 years. With “The Power of Wisdom” in the Group’s DNA, CDG people pooled their wisdom based on available technologies, social insights and experiential expertises to create the solutions that the Group offers to its clients. At present, the Group is comprised of six companies: Control Data (Thailand) Ltd., CDG Systems Ltd., Computer Peripherals and Supplies Ltd., ESRI (Thailand) Co., Ltd., GlobeTech Co., Ltd., and GIS Co., Ltd.
“With our strong determination, dedication and belief, we continue tirelessly to create innovations that will keep the nation progressing. CDG Group is now envisioned to take part in the transformation of IT infrastructure for a transition to Digital Thailand,” Mr. Nart added.
CDG’s mission henceforth is to support the government with advanced IT systems to develop national databases and facilitate data integrations across governmental agencies for increased competitiveness of Thailand and the best benefits of Thai people. Four areas of interests will be prioritized: 1) increased efficiency of public administration services becomes possible with use of IT solutions that enable cross-agency transactions and integration of inter-agency databases to streamline the process and reduce the cost of paperwork, increase work efficiency of government officials, and promote transparency of civil services; 2) citizen rights and security are being addressed through alien labor registration, assurance of people’s rights to liberty and safety, and control of crimes and epidemic diseases;3) economic and business development is being supported by digital mapping and application of the high-resolution Nostra Map to business solutions, such as logistics, asset appraisal and sales force management applications; and 4) social issues and national resources management, including natural resources and man-made infrastructure like water, electricity, housing zones and forests, call for efficient management systems and reliable databases, such as GIS-based solutions for disaster preparedness and response management, national electricity grid, housing projects development, deforestation prevention, and disaster rescue operations, etc.
These projects are embarking Thailand on its digital transformation—a time when IT technology becomes an urgent area of development to boost Thailand’s competitiveness against other ASEAN nations as well as those in the global marketplace. CDG Group uses technology and our wisdom and expertise to catalyze the digital ecology and prepare both the government and private sectors for a transition to Digital Thailand, as well as to equal CDG Group with or even surpass others as the leading IT company in the region.
“The transformation to Digital Thailand will never be realized if the young generation in Thailand fall short of computer knowledge. CDG Group wants to make this field of knowledge a passion in Thailand. We’ve therefore launched ‘CDG: Code Their Dreams’ project to mark our 48th anniversary. The project seeks to build awareness of young people and interested public about important roles of computer coding, which will give them the inspiration to learn. Consequently, this will help spawn competent coding professionals and equate Thailand’s technological capability multi-dimensionally with other leading nations. The nation’s development will therefore go by leaps and bound, and sustainably. At CDG Group, coding education will be a key focus of our CSR operations in long-term. We believe that Code Their Dreams will boost Thai people’s interests in computer coding and inspire them to learn more about it. This is regarded as our contribution to help produce high-caliber coding professionals, which will help drive our nation’s transformation to Digital Thailand with full pride.” Mr. Nart concluded.
