CSR Activity in Technology During Natural Disasters
2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami
CDG Group’s GIS technology played a crucial role in assisting officers at the relief center in Khao Lak, Phang Nga. We were responsible for coordinating data collection from various agencies, analyzing, printing maps, and comparing the area’s conditions before and after the disaster. This was done to accurately determine the points for relief efforts and to reduce the redundancy of the officers’ work.
“At that time, everyone was in shock and did not know what technology to use. Fortunately, we were able to help in a timely manner, using various types of technology, such as GPS, to collect coordinates of victims, maps for search and rescue plans, and satellite images to compare the area’s conditions before and after the disaster to assess the damage. Being able to fully assist our country is a source of pride for us. We are happy that our knowledge has been used for the benefit of society,” said Mr. Wichai Saenghirunwattana, President of GlobeTech Company Limited (GT), a subsidiary of CDG Group, sharing his experience on conducting fieldwork after the tsunami.
2011 Thailand Floods
CDG Group joined forces with several organizations to conduct fieldwork from October to December 2011 to gather map data, including aerial photographs and satellite images, to assess the flood situation in Northeastern, Central, and Southern Thailand. We analyzed water flow directions to systematically evaluate areas at risk and provide preparedness information. Additionally, we also created a website to report flood situations to the public and developed various programs to assist relief efforts, such as a planning program to assist relief efforts during the floods for the central government using NOSTRA Map or flood map data from GISTDA. We also collaborated with PTT Public Company Limited to create a website showing closed gas stations during the floods, as well as with the Ministry of Public Health to manage medical and disaster relief data for the Thai Red Cross Society.
